Get a Phone Alert When a 3D Print Finishes

The problem: finish lives in an app that does not ping you

Print farms, makerspaces, and small manufacturers run jobs that last hours. Someone has to clear the plate, start the next file, or catch a pause. Vendor phones apps help when they work. They do not cover every machine on a mixed bench: Bambu Studio, Creality/Prusa slicers, a browser farm dashboard, an OctoPrint tab on a spare monitor.

URL change monitors cannot see a desktop slicer. They also cannot see a logged-in local OctoPrint URL unless you point them at it—and many farms never put that URL on the public internet. The status you trust is whatever is on the screen next to the printer.

Use native push when you already have it

• Bambu Handy. If phone push already fires for finished and failed prints, keep using it. Do not add another tool for that printer.
• OctoPrint plugins. OctoPod, OctoText, Telegram, Pushover, Obico—these are the correct answer for OctoPrint. Install them.
• Bambu Studio on Windows. Community threads describe in-app popups that do not become system notifications when the window is unfocused. That leftover is a visual-monitoring fit.
• Mixed farms. One Creality with a cloud app, one Prusa on USB, one generic Klipper tab: there is no single notification product. The common surface is the UIs you already leave open.

LAN-only / developer-mode printers that drop cloud Handy are another reason the desktop or local web UI becomes the only status you have.

Watch Print completed (and Failed)

MonitorSensei watches the window or tab you share. You describe the end state in plain language:

• “Bambu Studio shows Print completed.”
• “The printer status is Finished.”
• “OctoPrint shows Print Finished.”
• “The farm dashboard row for Printer 2 shows Complete.”

Run a second tracker for trouble: “Bambu Studio shows a print error” or “status is Paused.” Use the words on your firmware and language pack. Keep that UI visible—even on a second display—while tracking.

How to set it up

1. Start the print. Leave Studio, the slicer, or the OctoPrint/farm tab on a screen you can share.
2. Create a MonitorSensei tracker with a finished-state sentence (and optionally an error tracker).
3. Share that window or browser tab, not the whole office desktop if you can avoid it.
4. Start tracking. Go do something else until the notification.

What this is not

It is not a camera failure-detection product (Obico and similar). It is not a substitute for OctoPrint plugins on printers you already run that way. It does not control the printer. It does not watch a machine you are not allowed to share. Browser capture requires your consent and sees only the surface you pick.

If Handy or OctoPod already nails finished-and-failed, stop here. Add a visual layer only for the UIs that stay silent.
